Halloumi Fries

G'day Curd Nerds. Welcome to the 11th Curd Nerd newsletter.

This week's free video tutorial about Halloumi fries is more on the foodie side of things rather than cheese-making itself. With some of the leftover Chilli Halloumi I had in the fridge, I decided to check out what the new fad of Halloumi fries was all about.

Normally, Halloumi is lightly pan-fried so that it slightly caramelises to fully bring out the flavour of the cheese. It is a non-melting cheese, so there is no issue with the cheese losing its shape.

So to lightly coat the cheese with milk and a seasoned flour mixture and cook until golden brown was easy to prepare. However, just because it was simple to make didn't mean it wasn't delicious! Can I just say that when I ate my first Halloumi frie dipped in Greek yoghurt, it was blooming amazing!

Now, of course, you just have to make the Halloumi yourself to get full satisfaction from the experience, but with that said, store-bought Halloumi would be just as nice. Perfect to serve as a side dish as a substitute for regular fries or hot chips.

If you really want to make Halloumi yourself, I have a special offer for you this week for the Fresh cheese kit. Don't forget to have a gander.

Remember that each week during the Ask the Cheeseman livestream on Sunday mornings at 0800 Australian Eastern Time on my YouTube channel, you can ask any home cheese-making question and I attempt to answer it live. See you there for a chat!

Yours in Cheese,

Gavin Webber

Upcoming Video Tutorial

Here is a sneak peek at a frame from next week's video tutorial. I managed to get my hands on some water buffalo milk, so decided it was high time to make Mozzarella di Bufala. I am so excited, hope it turns out okay! More next week.
