Our supplier has operated within the same family for 42 years, with clientele stretching as far back as the 70’s. Their experience with natural sea sponges would be matched by only a handful worldwide, with their ability to prepare and process natural sea sponges among the best in the world. Our supplier has become a global partner in the natural sea sponge industry.
In partnership with other suppliers around the world, we are constantly aware of what effect their practices have on the ocean environment. Sponge populations are carefully harvested to minimise disruption to the harvest area and to promote the regeneration of sea sponges for future harvest and collection. The natural sea sponge is a renewable resource from the sea, which has been harvested for over 150 years. If not harvested, sea sponges have a definitive life span of approximately 10 years; harvesting allows for regeneration and extended life.
Our supplier states that it is in our best interests to ensure the long-term sustainability of sea sponges in their natural environment, and for this reason, they promote and supervise appropriate harvest and collection methods.
